Apples contain a mixture of nutrients and there are endless examples of their health benefits. They are loved all over the world. However, an Australian website PERFIT reminds us in one of its essays, that apple seeds are harmful to human health because of their hydrogen cyanide content and that people should not to chew the pips when eating apples.
    众所周知 ,苹果富含维C、维E、多酚和黄酮类物质,它们都是天然抗氧化剂,对预防心脑血管疾病尤其有效。苹果的含钙量比一般水果 丰富 得多,可帮助代谢掉多余 分,有助减肥。
Apples are well known to be rich in vitamin C, vitamin E, polyphenols and flavonoids. These are natural antioxidants, especially effective against cardiovascular diseases. Apples contain much more calcium than normal fruit, which is helpful for metabolizing excess salinity and reducing weight.
    但是苹果核中含有氢氰酸却少有人知。澳大利亚研究人员发现,苹果含有少量有害物质--氢氰酸。氢氰酸大量沉积在身体,会导致头晕 头痛 、呼吸速率加快等症状,严重 时可能出现昏迷。
At the same time, few know of the presence of hydrogen cyanide in apple seeds. Australian researchers found that apples contain a small amount of the harmful substance - hydrogen cyanide. Accumulation of hydrogen cyanide may cause dizziness, headaches, accelerated respiration rate, and other symptoms. The worst cases of exposure may lead to coma.
    但也不必过分担心,苹果中的氢氰酸主要存在于果核,果肉里并没有。需要提醒 的是,吃苹果时习惯啃到果核,虽不会马上 导致中毒,但长期 这样吃,的确对健康不利。
Nevertheless, this is not cause for concern. Hydrogen cyanide is contained mainly in apple seeds as opposed to the pulp. We are also reminded that the habit of chewing apple seeds won't lead to immediate poisoning, but that in the long term, it is detrimental to health.
